Wild West Food Fest Winners!

Wow! It was an amazing festival Friday Night. Food from Peace and Carrots, Local Burger and Hilary’s EatWell was great. We donated all the canned good to Just Foods. Thanks to everyone’s help, we donated over 150 pounds of food!

Summer Food Criteria

We had a GREAT turn out last night. All the teams were excited and super pumped for the festival. On Sunday, teams must turn in their films by 10p.m.

Wild West Sign Up Tonight!

Just a quick reminder that sign up is tonight! We will be at Henry’s on Eighth in Lawrence from 7-to-9 p.m. Sign up is only $25 bucks and boy-oh-boy-this years secret criteria is great! We are all really excited to see what teams do this year. Teams can still sign up online, which has been a huge success this year! Several teams from L.A. and Chicago have signed up as the festival continues to expands outside of Kansas. Teams in K.C. can also pick up an entry packets at Hollywood At Home.

We will be posting the secret criteria later tonight for those playing along at home.

Screening this Saturday Night!

Two weeks ago, we had a record number of teams sign up for the Wild West Film Festival. 48 hours of labor and hard work went in to each film, and it shows.

Starting at 7:00 pm Saturday we will be screening the top 27 at Liberty Hall in Lawrence. Tickets are only $7 for general public and $5 for students. We will also have a costume contests during the festival, so dress for super success! The most heroic hero or vile villain will receive a cash prize and a DVD of the films.

Last night was the Lawrence round of judging. The judges were blown away by the quality of films this year. Along with the typical gang of local judges, we also enjoyed the company of local comic book writer Jai Nitz. He has written several comics for D.C. and Marvel. He is currently working on Hollywood movie comic tie-ins, such as the upcoming Green Hornet.

The judging may be almost over, but remember- every film is up for people’s choice.

Happy Friday! Within the week we should have Pal Pay up and running. Once on the website, teams can start signing up early. Here is a copy of the press release we’ve been sending around lately. Only two weeks away guys. Do you have your teams ready?

The Wild West Film Festival is coming back to Lawrence this summer in a super return. The Wild West Film Festival is an annual festival that pushes groups to write, shoot, and edit a five minute film with in 48 hours. In light of recent hollywood success, the festival has turned towards a super hero/villain theme for this summers festival. Groups can pick up an entry form and secret criteria Friday June 25,
between 7pm-10pm at two locations (Astory Kitty Comics 7th Mass in Lawrence, KS or Hollywood at Home 95th Metcalf in Overland Park, KS ). From the pick up on, teams have only 48 hours to make a five minute hero/villain themed film. Films are due NO LATER than 10p.m. and can be drop off at Liberty Hall in Lawrence or Hollywood at Home in KC Sunday June 27th.
The screening for the top 25 entries will be July 10th 7pm at Liberty Hall. A panel of judges will pick the top three films to be awarded great prizes, including gift certificates and cash! This years judges include KU Alum Chris Martin (who won an Emmy for his special effects work on NBC’s show Heros) along with other local comic writes and artist.

In the past, the festival has raised over one-thousand dollars for The Willow Domestic Violence Center Early this year, the festival was awarded the 2010 Loren Dolezal Community Service Award from the KU Department of Film and Media Studies for outstanding work within the film and local community.
This festival is open to anybody with a camera and a love of filmmaking.

Three Week Away

Hey teams! We are three weeks away from sign up, and boy-O-boy do we have a lot of stuff planed. We are working on getting a paypal account to help film makers outside of the Lawrence area sign up. Once this account is running, teams will be able to sign up early. Then, Friday June 25, paid teams will receive an email with this years awesome criteria. On top of that, teams can up load their finished film to megaupload.com. Teams should check out this website and become familiar with it before using. This year we’ll be getting teams from L.A., Portland and maybe even France!

If you are in the area, pick up with be Friday June 25 at Astro Kitty Comics in Lawrence and Hollywood at him in KC.
