We just wanted to send out some basic info to teams about the screening along with a list of the films being shown.

First off-The screening is this Sunday (Oct 30th) at Liberty Hall in Lawrence. Doors open at 7 and films start at 7:30. During intermission we will be hosting a costume contest, so come dressed to win! Each team captain will be on the guest list with a plus one and tickets are only $5. All proceeds go to support local films groups including KU Filmworks.

On top of that-The Granada has invited us to celebrate another successfully festival with a Rocky Horror after party! The event is totally FREE to all those who attend this years festival.

And finally-HERE is a list of this years films being screened Sunday.

We are soooooo close to another Wild West Film Fest. I can’t believe it. This criteria has been picked and the teams are forming.

Hey all! As a treat to your (our loyal teams!) we are offering early sing up online. From now until October 15th, teams can sign up and save $5. Pretty cool, huh?

We also have a huge event planed Friday October 14th, as a sort of Wild West Kick Off. Friday night, in South Park (Lawrence, KS) we will be screening The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Beetlejuice and Arachnophobia. In between each film we will be screening past Wild West films. So be sure to check it out. Flyer coming soon.
And finally, we are working on a Wild West Film Fest T.V. show for Chanel 6. Each episode will showcase past festival films and include behind the scenes look at the festival. We will make sure everyone knows when the show starts playing.
I told you guys we had some cool stuff planed for this year, didn’t I? Oh-and the best is yet to come.

We are just ONE week away from some 48 hour madness! Teams can now sign up early using paypal.. Teams will receive a confirmation email within 24 hours of signing up. Then, Friday July 8th between 7 and 8pm central time, teams will be emailed the secret criteria that all must films use. This email will also include technical information and explain how to upload your film online for us. We will be accepting films using viemo.com and meagupload.com this summer.

48 hour competition to celebrate film and food this summer!

The signs of summer are here! The pool is open, the grill is out, and all across Kansas film makers are breaking a sweat.

The Wild West Film Festival is an annual festival that pushes groups to write, shoot, and edit a five minute film within 48 hours. The festival keeps teams guessing by changing up the theme every summer. Last year the super hero festival was a super success! This year, the festival will be teaming up with Local Burger, The Merc, and local farms to present The Wild West Food Fest. With a focus on promoting local and organic food, each film will be using different food based criteria.
Groups can pick up an entry form and secret criteria Friday July 8, between 7pm-9pm at Henry’s Coffee Shop off of Eighth and Mass in Lawrence, KS. Teams outside of Lawrence can sign up online at wildwestfilmfest.com. Only $25 for team entry-including free tickets to the screening. From pick up on, teams have only 48 hours to make a five minute food themed film. Films are due NO LATER THAN 10pm and can be dropped off at Liberty Hall in Lawrence, or at Hollywood at Home in KC on Sunday, July 10th.

The screening for the top 25 films will be July 15, 7pm at Liberty Hall. To further embrace this year’s food theme, the screening will present a canned food drive and feature fresh appetizers by Peace and Carrots Catering.

A panel of judges will award the top three films. Prizes include $100 dollars cash, gift certificates, fresh local food, and more! This year, the festival is honored to have Maria Skeels as a guest judge. Maria was a casting director for Gordon Ramsay’s MasterChef on FOX, and created the Hollywood Hawks– an organization that helps KU grads find connections in the entertainment industry.

In the past, the festival has raised money for The Willow Domestic Violence Center, The Lawrence Humane Society, and The Social Service League. The festival was awarded the 2010 Loren Dolezal Community Service Award from the KU Department of Film and Media Studies for outstanding work within the film and local community.

This festival is open to anyone with a camera and a love of filmmaking…and great food!
Tickets for the screening are only $5:00, with $2:00 off of entry if you bring canned goods for donation!

All proceeds from the screening go to local food banks.

Summer 2011 Update

Hey all! We have had some troubles, but I think we got most of them figured out. Just wanted to let everyone know that we are still on for another great summer Wild West Film Fest!

Derek and I have been in charge of the festival for the last few years. Its been a great pleasure, but also a lot of work. Its been tough juggling work, life and mostly school. But now that we are both done with College, we are ready to give the festival the extra time its needed to really knock it out of the park. We got some great stuff planed this summer, including some pretty big sponsors.
Keep an eye out for more to come in the months ahead.

October Festival Line Up

Last weekend, 27 teams took it upon themselves to write, shoot and edit a short film in 48 hours. which isn’t an easy feat. If you think about it over 1,000 hours were spent putting these films together. From groups attempting the festival for the first time to festival-veterans, the festival runs the gamut. All the teams deserve a pat of the back for completing the 48 hour challenge.

Earlier this week, the films were judged by Tony Ontiveros (Production Coordinator at Free State Studios), Kendall Sinn (Horror Web Series Creator of “Shadow Falls”), Joel Sanderson (creator of The Basement Sublet of Horror on the Public Access Station) and John Ary (producer of Night Frights and Natural State Productions.)

Prizes will be awarded to the top films at the end of the night.

Liberty Hall doors open at 7:00, the screening will start at 7:30. Tickets are only $5 with proceeds going to The Social Service League.
Don’t forget the costume contest during intermission! Cash prize baby!
And thank you everyone. With out the support of the amazing teams, this festival won’t happen. Its been amazing to be a part of this festival and you guys always make it worth it! See you tomorrow

We are only ONE WEEK away! Are your teams ready? Next Friday, October 15 teams can pick up entry forms and the secret criteria between 7pm-9pm at Henrys Coffee (11 E 8th Street in Lawrencee) or Hollywood at Home (9063 Metcalf Ave in Overland Park). After that teams will have 48 hours to create a truly haunting five minute film. Films are due Sunday (October 17^th) no later than 10pm and can be dropped off at Liberty Hall (644 Mass Street, Lawrence) or Hollywood at Home.For teams out of town, they can sign up online here:

Friday October 15^th, teams who signed up online will receive an email with the secret criteria between 7pm-8pm. Finished films can then be uploaded to megaupload.com and sent to wildwestfilmfest@yahoo.com. More information will be provided for teams who choose to sign up online.

The screening will be the fallowing Friday (October 22) at Liberty Hall with proceeds going to The Social Service League. Gift certificates and cash prizes for 1^st, 2^nd, 3^rd and Peoples Choice!

After the screening, teams can pick up the judging packets. DVDs of this years festival, along with previous years will be on sale during the screening.
