The Wildest 48-hour Marathon Film Fest In The Midwest

The Festival ‘09

Wednesday, July 15, 2009

Hey everybody,
I hope everyone had a blast making their 48 hour films!

We got 23 very awesome films this year! I thinkt hat everyone will be surprised at the Screening,
Which is on July 24th at Liberty Hall, the doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 7:30pm.

We will be putting together a DVD collection of all the films, the cost is still unknown because we
don’t know how much it will cost to produce 40 of them, but we are estimating them to be about $10.

We hope to see everyone there!

I thought 25 films were entered? Not 23.

I thought 27 teams entered? Did some not turn in a film?

Can they sell our work? I remember signing away the rights to use the films for promotional purposes but the rights of the films themselves. This is feels like murky legal waters to me.

How about instead they just bring back the ability to watch the movies on this website? What happen to that feature? I want to see the films from previous contests.

ALSO. What’s the deal with assigning different genres to different groups? That seems to skew the criteria as sunscreen is hardly as dramatic or mysterious as it is comedic. Not to mention the impossibility of judging any movie executing it genre better the another. That is, an excellent comedy will get laughs whereas an excellent drama will move an audience. How could those possibly be ranked?

Personally I liked the random criteria. Helps cut down on people who have pre-produced their film and helps keep people in the true spirit of the competition which is to make a film completely in 48 hours.

Judging the different criteria is tricky but not impossible. Every film can be judged on technical merits. That is universal. Then incorporation of the criteria (including the genre), also universal. Finally, crowd reaction, the audience will let you know if a film is good or not.

    Hey everybody,
For the most part I think everyone is happy about the criteria mix up, I do want a lot of feedback for how things are going and how the festival goes on the 24th, come see either Derek Sellens or Alex Backus for comments.

So far I think everyone is exited about the DVD, your not buying your own film, your buying everyone else’s, and remember that a large portion of the proceeds go to the Woman’s shelter or whatever Charity we are supporting each year. But the DVD money will most likely go to getting ready for the October Scare Factor Edition of the festival, we are planning some awesome things for it.

We are going to make the films available to everyone online, we are talking about a youtube group account where people can add their films to the group on their own. So you can have a choice there, except the winners who will be available on the site.

I am with the TEAM B-JAM (my son Billy Fridley is the director) it’s driving him nuts and I don’t know what to tell him. He wants to know when you will post up what films made it into the festival – (he’s the 11 year old who did SUPER FORCE FOUR)

    Thanks – Mom
